Natalia and Vladimir live and work in St. Petersburg, Russia. They
own and operate the WIN Gallery. WIN is the pseudonym of "
Vladimir and Natasha". The work together on all projects,
including both their paintings and books. They are celebrated painters
in Russia and authors of more than 20 books of prose and poetry. These
books can be found in the libraries of more than 35 western
universities and cultural centers; among them Harvard, the Sorbonne,
and Cambridge.
WIN learned to work according to the system of Pavel Filonov, the
great Russian artist of the early twentieth century. Painters from
Pavel Filonov's ransacked school, whose names became legends, passed
their unique secrets to Natalia and Vladimir. For six years during
Soviet times, Natalia and Vladimir directed a secret art association
to arouse art awareness among adults using Filonov's methods.
Now, the WIN Gallery houses approximately 120 works on permanent
display. Their art contains elements of Russian folklorism and
expressionism while still preserving remarkable originality. In their
pictures a glimpse of the Russian soul is waiting to be caught -- it
is this mystical quality which has been of interest to the west for
centuries. WIN's method of art is called "Spontaneous
Neoclassicism."
Natalia and Vladimir have held 55 highly successful exhibitions in
Russia and abroad. Now 90% of WIN artworks are in western collections.
The Evsevievs are also creators of the famous sarcastic phiolsophic
novel "Zombi" containing elements of fantasy and grotesques.
This epic novel was able to be published only because of Perestroika
and under pressure from the west, particularlyfrom Harvard Professor
and Russian expert Richard Popes and thanks to the support of the
first President of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Gorbachev.
Natalia is from the aristocrat family of Count Chernyshev (an
influential stateman of tsarist Russia) and from the Naryshkin family
(mother of Peter the Great).
Russia is a Klondike of talents. Today in Russia we have a unique
situation in painting -- it is a great time for collectors. It is
possible to take a risk and catch a grand prize -- art is a game of
chance. But, we believe it is impossible to lose because the time is
unique -- it will never be repeated. Soon, the great modern Russian
art will become very expensive.
Natalia says, "I am sure that Russian contemporary painting
will be just as great as Russian literature of the nineteenth century
and the Russian icons of the seventeenth century." |
