Elsie married George Mann in 1916. After George's death in 1919, Elsie was a single parent with an 18 month old toddler. Her parents came to live with her and Minnie took care of little Donald while Elsie went to work at Oakland Motor Company. She got a job as a seamstress. She held the position of "Floor Lady" in the factory's upholstry shop.

Elsie's father died in 1927. Minnie continued to take care of Don until she became too ill with diabetes and she herself needed the care of her other daughter, Laura. Minnie died in February, 1938.

In December 1938, Elsie remarried. her new husband was Roy William "RW" Fangboner. This was also his second marriage. Her son, Don married three weeks later.

In her retirement, Elsie continued to make specialized upolstry bags and cushions in her basement.
